Internet Safety Project - Comic Life and iMovie

 

Internet Safety, Ethics and Netiquette - video presentations by students using iMovie, ComicLife and digital cameras. 

 

A. Project Outline

 

  1. Students work in groups and select a topic. (see below for topic ideas).
  2. Research topic.
  3. Develop an outline for a video.  Use the ComicLifeSlidePreplanning template in Google Drive to plan your story, pictures and ideas.

                    A. To get the template - open a Googe Document, go to File>New>From Template.  

                    B. Type in "Comic Life" and click "Search Templates".  The Comic Life Pre-planning sheet should appear.

                    C. Choose "Use this Template" 

                    D. Share the document with your group and fill it in.

 

     4. Use ComicLife to create a storyboard for video and design pages. 

     IMPORTANT: Make sure you are formatted for HD Video-720p for viewing in a video.  

         Directions:

               In Comic Life:

               Go to FILE>PAGE FORMAT

               Under PAGE SIZE go to VIDEO> HD Video (720p)

     5. Use digital cameras to take pictures for video and import images into iPhoto.

     6.Import images into ComicLife and design pages.

 

     7.Export ComicLife project as images to iPhoto.

          A. Go tp FILE>EXPORT to iPHOTO

          B.  Choose :   JPEG,

                               600dpi

                               BEST QUALITY

          C. Click EXPORT.  (after export, you can close iPhoto)

     8. Import images into iMovie from iPhoto. 

          A. Click on the Camera Symbol

          B. Drag your photos to project area.

          C. Turn off the Ken Burns Effect if necessary.

 

     9. Add voice overs, sound effects, music and titles.

     10. Export your iMovie and share with your teacher.

     11. Present video in class.

C. Project Requirements

     Picture taking and Comic Life 

  • pictures are appropriate and high quality (not blurry, no heads cut off, etc)  
  • no more than 2 bubbles on a slide (duplicate slide if necessary).  Watch "Too Many Bubbles" for tips on splitting up voice bubbles.
  • bubbles and pictures are not cut off in Comic Life (stay away from the edge)
  • the words in the bubbles are large and easy to read on the big screen

 

 

       Working in iMovie

  • voice overs are clear and easy to understand (volume adjusted if necessary)
  • contains a music track and introduction
  • contains a music track and conclusion
  • Comic Life and iMove are set up in the proper format (720p)
  • your group used their time wisely
  • use the Ken Burns effect in your video. Click here to see an example of a Ken Burns' video.
