2. File Extensions

"A file extension, also called a filename extension, is the suffix at the end of a filename, which indicates what kind of file it is. For example, you can tell that the file "computer.jpg" is a JPEG image file, based on the ".jpg" file extension. Similarly, you can tell that "readme.txt" is a text document and "document.doc" is a Microsoft Word document. Knowing what extensions common file types use can be helpful." (FileInfo.net)

   File Extensions Project

6. Creating A Technology Product Brochure

Use advanced formatting to include text and images that encourages someone to purchase a computer.

When purchasing any technology product, there are many different choices. Computers, for example, come in different sizes, work at different speeds, hold various amounts of memory, have different features and perform multiple tasks. As a consumer, you should compare and contrast several different products before making a purchase. It is important to know about the various features of a product to determine which product best meets your needs.

For this project you will use the Internet to research the features of two computers. You may want to compare a laptop with a desktop or one brand with another brand.

1. Decide on two computers that you would like to compare.

2. Download and complete the “Computer Terms and Comparison Handout." You must fill in all of the information and answer the question below the table. This will be collected!

Researching Computer Terms - use the sites below:

Researching Computer Features - use the sites below:

3. Once you have compared the features of the two computers choose one of the computers and create a brochure designed to market that computer. Your brochure must contain information from your Computer Research Comparison Table. Use the Brochure Outline as a guide for the layout of your brochure.  This document will tell you what information to put in each part of your brochure.

4. Download the Blank Brochure document.  This is a document that contains 3 columns.  You will need to add text boxes and graphics to each of the six panels to create your brochure.

5. When you print your brochure, it will be on two pages.  Glue the two pages back to back and fold the papers into a brochure. Be sure to hand in your brochure and your Computer Research Comparison Table. Your Done!

7. Top Ten Technology Products

Use Google Apps to create a presentation of your group's pick of the top ten technology products. Each slide should have an image of the product or website and at least 5 bullet points listing the features and/or reason that you selected this product or website. Your presentation should have at least 11 slides, one slide per top ten item and a cover slide. For examples of some top products see CNET's Top 100 Products, MSN's The 100 Best Products of the Year, Best Tech Products of 2008,
